3 ways to boost the effectiveness of your Teacher PL

A recent publication: ‘Beyond PD: Teacher Professional Learning in High-Performing Systems’ provides an excellent research based guide for schools to maximise the effectiveness of their teacher professional learning.  

The report illustrates how four high-performing systems—British Columbia (Canada), Hong Kong, Shanghai (China) and Singapore— developed their teacher professional learning.

Three key findings emerged as factors required to  develop a high performing school:

  • Develop leaders or engage the expertise of ‘master practitioners’ to drive targeted professional learning in the school aligned to school improvement goals.
  • Evaluation and accountability strategies focus not just on student outcomes but also on teacher practice and professional learning outcomes.
  • Time is created to allow teachers to collaborate and develop teacher practice.
