What is Twitter?

Twitter is an online social networking tool that allows participants to share short (140 character) text messages.

Why should I use Twitter?

Educators are using Twitter to connect with other educators and to easily access educational content and teaching ideas relevant to them.

The language of Twitter

Twitter uses some key language like @, #, via.  We explain it here.

What is following and followers?

When you "Follow" someone, you subscribe to his or her tweet feed.  Other people can subscribe/follow you

How do I get involved with Twitter.

Set up an account at Twitter.  Make sure you add a photo and some information about yourself so other twitterers know what sort of information you might be interested in.

Who should I follow?

Follow people you know; colleagues or other educators.  There are also lists of educators that you can search for via Google.  A few suggestions to start following are:  @GregWhitby, @CatholicEdParra, @Gazzabrown and @GCouros.

Things to know to make your Twitter experience more enjoyable

Don’t click on links from people you don’t know or that look suspicious
Check the profiles of people who follow you and if they don’t seem right block them.
